DROUGHT INFORMATION
The South Carolina Drought Response Committee (DRC) met on September 8, 2026, to evaluate drought conditions statewide. The DRC is the state’s major drought decision making entity and determines drought severity as defined by the S.C. Drought Response Act to protect the state’s natural resources. The act establishes four levels of drought: incipient, moderate, severe, and extreme. For more information about the DRC and the SC Drought Response Program, visit scdrought.com.
Stage 3: Severe Drought
Objective: Mandate significant reductions in non-essential water use to preserve minimum domestic supply, maintain distribution pressure, and protect fire-fighting reserves.
· Mandatory Customer Restrictions: Landscape irrigation is limited to designated staggered address days and only during low-evaporation hours between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., unless stricter hours are announced.
· Washing sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, exterior building surfaces, and similar hardscapes is prohibited.
· Personal vehicle washing at residences is prohibited. Commercial car washes may continue only if they use water recycling or equivalent conservation practices approved by the utility.
· The utility may require immediate correction of substantial customer-side leaks or continuous overflows that materially waste water.

As of 9/23/2026 the repairs are complete. If you are experiencing discolored water run cold water in the tub or from outside hose to flush your line to your house. If your water does not clear up call us at 803-469-5495. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
This morning, 9/22/2026, SCDOT struck a post hydrant on US 378 Myrtle Beach Highway, which may affect Oswego customers in and around the area. Please be patient. After it’s repaired, Oswego customers may experience discolored water due to a disturbance in the line. Remember to run your water for about 20 minutes until it’s clear.
Recommended Steps for Residents
Check Before Use: Before washing laundry, running the dishwasher, or cooking, check your water. If you notice discoloration, let a cold water tap run for 1 to 2 minutes, preferably from an outside spigot or bathtub, until the water runs clear.
Avoid Hot Water Use While Discolored: If your water is discolored, avoid using hot water until it clears to help prevent sediment from entering your water heater.
Store Water Ahead of Time: You may wish to store a small supply of drinking water in advance of flushing.
Laundry Notice: Do not wash light-colored clothing while water is discolored. If laundry becomes stained, do not place it in the dryer. Rewash the items as soon as possible using detergent and, if appropriate, a rust-removal laundry product.
If Discoloration Continues: If the water does not clear after running cold water for several minutes, wait 30 to 60 minutes and try again. If discoloration continues for more than 24 hours, contact Oswego Rural Water for assistance.
